Can Premature Ejaculation Be Controlled?
Premature ejaculation (PE) is not something that many people want to talk about. It can be incredibly embarrassing for both you and your partner and leave you looking for a solution to control PE. So, is it possible to stop premature ejaculation?
The good news is that yes, there are methods and premature ejaculation treatments for PE management which can help you last longer in the bedroom and improve your sex life.
What is Premature Ejaculation?
Premature ejaculation occurs when semen leaves a man’s body earlier than he wants during sexual activity. To be more specific, premature ejaculation is when a man always or almost always ejaculates within one to three minutes of penetration or, when a man in unable to delay orgasm all the time or nearly all the time.
Ejaculation issues can cause a man to avoid sexual intimacy because they feel frustrated or embarrassed. This can weigh heavily on a man’s mental health and can leave him with feelings of sham, embarrassment and a low sex drive,
However, early ejaculations are actually more common than you might think with around 1 in 3 men experiencing it at some point so there is no reason to be ashamed. Instead, you should look to enhance stamina and improve ejaculatory control through certain methods and PE solutions treatment.
Types of Premature Ejaculation
There are two main types of premature ejaculation: lifelong PE and acquired PE. Lifelong premature ejaculation means that you’ve always or almost always experienced premature ejaculation since your first sexual experience.
It is not precisely known what causes lifelong PE but some of the leading theories include abnormal hormone levels including low levels of serotonin, infections that have affected the urethra, mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, or poor body image.
Similarly, the causes of acquired PE are not completely understood but may be from sexual performance anxiety, relationship issues or erectile dysfunction, or certain medical conditions. You may even experience losing an erection during sex.
Additionally, some men suffer from variable premature ejaculation. Variable PE is when a man only sometimes prematurely ejaculates and these PE’s are coincidental or situational. Subjective premature ejaculation is also defined as a condition, but this is when a person only believes they have PE despite having normal ejaculatory control.
Premature Ejaculation Treatments
There are many treatment options available for the treatment of PE. Topical numbing creams such as benzocaine, lidocaine or prilocaine can be used to help manage early ejaculation. These creams are applied 10 to 15 minutes before sexual intercourse and help reduce sensation in the penis which can in turn control climax. The downside of this treatment is that they cause decreased feeling and can reduce sexual pleasure in both partners.
Another option is medication as some medications work as premature ejaculation pills even though they may not be their primary use. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRIs) antidepressants such Lexapro and Prozac have delayed ejaculation as a side effect of their use. For this reason, they can be used as a PE treatment. However, antidepressants have side effects such as drowsiness and low sex drive. Certain pain relivers such as Tramadol also have delayed ejaculation as a side effect.
Additionaly, erectile dysfunction treatment medications such as Viagra and Cialis may also be effective in treating erectile dysfunction. They work by helping to prolong erections and have been shown to be more effective at treating PE when used in conjunction with SSRI antidepressants. As with any medication, it is important to talk to your doctor about its use and potential side effects.
How to Overcome Premature Ejaculation
There are also other non-medical methods to stop PE and extend performance. Weak pelvic floor muscles have been shown to make it harder for a man to control release of their ejaculation. As such, exercises, such as Kegel exercise, that strengthen the pelvic floor have been shown to be effective in helping a man with ejaculation control. These exercises are quite simple and require you to tighten and release your pelvic muscles around ten times, three times a day.
You may also want to consider certain ejaculation techniques to help manage PE. Some techniques include masturbating one to two hours before sexual intercourse, using a condom to reduce the sensitivity, and taking a deep breath before you think you are going to ejaculate as this can work to shut down the ejaculatory reflex. You may also consider having sex with your partner on top so you can quickly pull away.
Additionally, many people suffer from premature ejaculation for mental reasons. PE can be caused by things such as relationship issues, sexual performance anxiety, and depression among many other psychological issues. All of these issues may also result in a low libido. These issues can be helped by talking to a mental health professional or even couples counseling.
It may also be beneficial to talk to your partner about the situation. Oftentimes, your partner might be upset at this part of your sexual intimacy together. As such, it is oftentimes important to work as a team to overcome your PE and boost your libido naturally. By using methods, treatments, and talk therapy, you can overcome your PE.
